Minecraft 1.18 will be available on November 30th, for both Java editions and Bedrock editions. This was announced on Minecraft.net. This update will be part 2 of the Caves & Cliffs update. 1.17 was originally planned to release it as a complete package. Mojang decided to release Caves and Cliffs in two separate updates to allow them more time to focus on the major changes that these updates will bring to Minecraft.
And I do really mean monumental. Caves and Cliffs Part 1 introduced over 90 new block types, new creatures like Glow Squids, Goats and Axolotls, and new tools such Lightning Rods and Spyglasses. Caves and Cliffs part 2 will completely change Minecraft's terrain generation and populate the most remote areas with all kinds of strange and new resources. Let's look at the top features of Minecraft 1.18 Update.
Minecraft 1.18 is being redesigned. You'll now be able dig below Y Level 0.
The lowest depth is now -64. Below Y=0, you will enter the "Deepslate Layer", where blocks of stone are transformed into deepslate blocks. This holds true for ore veins as well: below Y=0, you will find deepslate veins containing copper, gold and iron.
The new underground terrain generation changes will allow you to discover all kinds of new cave structures in Minecraft 1.18. Minecraft 1.19: The Wild Update has delayed the release of the all-new Deep Dark biome. This biome was supposed to be part the Caves and Cliffs modifications. However, it has been delayed along with its dangerous denizen the Warden.
You'll also need to look elsewhere for Diamonds because the terrain changes. Learn more about how to find Diamonds in Minecraft.
Minecraft 1.18 is being redesigned. Now, mountains are created in a different way. There are five sub-biomes that make up each layer of each mountain, instead of one or two "extreme hills", or "mountain" biomes.
Pay attention to the Y-Levels and you will see that 1.18 increases the maximum height of mountains. They were capped at Y=140 before, but they now can reach Y=255. This is a great option for towers and castles on mountaintops.
However, not all mountains will be as tall. Only the highest mountains will have the Lofty Peaks or Snow Capped Peaks biomes. These terrain changes will bring new exploration and discovery to any 1.18 Minecraft world. You can rest assured that I will be hard at work updating our list of best Minecraft seeds after part 2 of Caves & Cliffs is released!
Caves and Cliffs Part 2 brings you two additional cave types: the Lush Cave, and the Dripstone Cave.
Lush Caves are cool caves that are filled with vines and moss. It sounds like Lush Caves will be a great place to practice parkour. I cannot wait to see these beautiful caves with the best Minecraft shader pack.
Dripstone Caves house the Dripstone Blocks, which are created naturally by dripping to form organic-looking stalagmites and stalactites. Dripstone Caves, aside from their fascinating terrain features, are functionally identical to other caves, but will be highly sought-after for their dripstone.
